The Missing Cat Lady - Horary Astrology
Horary astrology is the art of using the chart for the moment a question is asked to find the answer. Let's look at two charts of missing kitties that horary helped bring home!
I have recently had the luxury (and I mean that) of helping a few individuals find their missing cats and I wanted to share them with you because they make my heart so ~ happy ~
For starters, if you’re not familiar with Horary, it is the branch of astrology which deals with creating a chart for the moment a question is asked. The chart for the moment the question is ‘birthed’ gives you the answer through the connections that the planets are making. You can ask questions about love, applying for jobs, asking for a promotion, buying a house, etc. but the important thing to consider when you’re asking a question is: are you ready for an honest answer? Because the stars won’t lie and they also won’t sugarcoat it. This is probably, my favorite niche within astrology, and I won’t go into teaching this art necessarily in this post because it’s a lot, but I will walk you through a few charts with happy endings!! (because unfortunately not all of them have happy endings but I love to celebrate the ones that do)
Ps - if you find yourself in a position of needing a horary question answered I offer them here! You can also ask the question in a one on one reading with me & we can discuss it together.
Example One:
I received this question “where is my cat?” on November 24th, 2024 at 5:55pm in Charlotte, NC. You can find the chart below!
The first thing I considered was that the person asking me the question, the planet ruling the first house, was Mercury in Sagittarius in the seventh. I know this because the chart has a Gemini rising and Mercury is Gemini’s ruling planet. The second thing I considered was the cat, who is associated with the planet ruling the sixth house, Mars in Leo in the third house. When I look at these planets, their signs, the house they're in, and aspects they’re making I can get an idea of the condition of each of them. I felt good that the person asking the question, we’ll call her Ms. Owner, was in an angular house. This meant that there was strength in finding the cat. That said, she was in a sign she didn’t like (Sagittarius is not a sign that Mercury can do what it wants, therefore it tends to struggle). This likely reflected her stress regarding the situation, her stress that her cat was gone and she was fearful she wouldn’t see him again. Mars, the planet ruling Mr. Cat, was in the third house. This is the house of the neighborhood/neighbors, which is great news because it likely means that the cat is close by and still in her neighborhood!!
Now, a little backstory, I knew that Mr. Cat was an indoor/outdoor kitty but he would always maintain certain routines and come home when he was called. I also knew that he was very friendly and there was a fear that he had followed someone else home or gotten picked up somehow. The area was a busy one, so there were many possibilities. When I saw that Mars was in the third house, I felt immediately relieved that he was likely close-by and possibly with a neighbor. This was also backed up by the Sun’s applying trine to Mars. And, let’s quickly note which house the Sun rules, the third! This means that the Sun in this chart is Ms. Owner’s neighbors AND not only is the cat in the neighbors house in the chart BUT the neighbors are in the Cats house. This suggests a close relationship between neighbors and the cat. Are you following me?
Now, I knew that he was likely close-by, but I also knew I needed to be more specific for Ms. Owner to help her find him. Each of the zodiac signs are associated with different directions/places. Fire signs tend to suggest somewhere high up, somewhere you have to physically tilt your head up to see. That suggested to me that he was likely on a higher level of a house/apartment building ~ or ~ maybe high up in a tree, on a roof, etc. And, get this, it just so happened that she lived in an apartment! This to me suggested he was likely in a unit of one of her neighbors that lived on a higher up floor, if not the highest floor. In addition, Leo is associated with the North East, and this led me to believe he was probably on the north-east side of her complex in a higher floor apartment with a neighbor.
Alllll of that said, we need to consider if and exactly how long before they are to be reunited, and that leads me to the moon. The Moon is placed in Virgo and I noticed that her next aspect was a trine, which we like, to Uranus in exactly one degree. This suggested to me that things would likely change within one day, and I felt strongly that the change would be a reunion between these two based on all the other positive significations in the chart!
Drum roll please… within twenty four hours I heard from Ms. Owner that she had found Mr. Cat in a neighboring third floor apartment in the north-east area of her complex!! Welcome home Mr. Cat!!
Example two:
I received this question “where is my cat and is he ok?” on January 5, 2025 at 4:55pm in Charlotte NC. Here is the chart!
In this example Cancer is rising on the ascendant which means that Ms. Owner is represented by the Moon in Aries in the tenth house. Mr. Cat, represented by the planet ruling the sixth house, is Jupiter retrograde in Gemini in the twelfth house. The Moon in Aries is conjunct the North Node and in the tenth house, an angular house, which both gave me high hopes that Ms. Owner and Mr. Cat would be reunited. That said, I didn’t feel amazing about the whole Jupiter in a sign it doesn’t like, retrograde, and in the twelfth house… I was anxious that this meant the cat was hurt, or possibly something worse as all three together (retrograde, twelfth house, and in detriment) likely meant the situation was dire. I was also fairly certain that given Jupiter’s proximity in the twelfth house that Mr. Cat was likely very well hidden.
In addition to this, I also didn’t feel great about the square that Jupiter was making to Saturn in Pisces. Saturn tends to be associated with significant delays, which I didn’t love, and typically means it’s going to be a lot of work if Ms. Owner and Mr. Cat wanted to be reunited. The great news is, though, Ms. Owner was VERY determined to find Mr. Cat & was willing to go to great lengths to ensure he slept at home that night! Love her for that. I’m not going to lie, I definitely underestimated her willingness to bring him home that night, but I am so glad that Mr. Cat has someone like her on his side.
Now considering that Mr. Cat is Jupiter in Gemini – I also had to consider that air signs tend to be associated with things at eye level. This meant that if he was well hidden, like the twelfth house suggested, he had to also be somewhere not too eye level simply given the nature of things existing at eye level (I hope you’re following me). Gemini also tends to be associated with cars, libraries, books, anything involving learning, hills, open spaces, and south-west. This led me to speculate – could he be hidden under a car? Could he be near one of those little ‘free libraries’ that a lot of neighborhoods have? Are there any hills? What part of the neighborhood is associated with the south-west?
I wrote off the ‘under the car’ theory pretty quickly because that’s not consistent with ‘eye-level’ but kept the other ideas in my pocket. I learned that south-west of the neighborhood was a lumber yard, which did stress us both out given that Ms. Owner didn’t have access to said lumber yard, but that didn’t stop her from persevering and walking every square inch of her neighborhood that she could! It turned out that the neighborhood had some fencing, and I wondered if Mr. Cat could have been sandwiched between a fence and something else. I also considered the playground, because Gemini can also be associated with school and youth, but that didn’t pan out either.
As the evening crept on I became more and more concerned that we wouldn’t get an answer on his whereabouts that night, especially given Jupiter’s square to Saturn. I conveyed that I really didn’t think she would find him that night, and I knew that wasn’t what she wanted to hear, but that it may take time for him to reconnect with her. But, because she is a real one, she persisted! She stayed out most of the night looking for him and ended up finding him a little after 7 hours from her original message. He was hiding between an AC unit (very air sign of him) and a fence, which I admit is lower down then I expected him to be! He was a little hurt, but everyone was so thankful to have him home!!
As a human who loves animals it warms my heart to have helped these kitties find their homes again! Horary doesn’t always show a happy ending, simply because that’s life, sometimes things go wrong and the horary chart will show that. That said, it’s so wonderful when I can share some good/hopeful news with you all through horary!
Thanks for reading!
